The December VAT Deadline is nearly here! Do you need to file?
Under the Thirteenth VAT Directive (86/560/EEC), the deadline for Non-EU countries reclaiming VAT from travel to the UK is 31st December 2018.
Non- EU based businesses visiting the UK are able to claim VAT refunds on VAT incurred on goods and services consumed in the UK from the period July 1st 2017 until June 30th 2018.
For offices based outside of the EU, VAT reclaim is available on goods and services purchased during the refund period provided in the UK on accommodation (20% VAT!), fuel, tolls, car hire, meals, drinks, restaurant services, admissions to trade fairs, exhibitions and much more.
Non-EU based companies are due huge refunds on business spending in the UK!
But keeping track of all business expenses is no small task. More often than not, expenses are charged on company credit cards while others are paid in cash or even with the employee's own personal cards. In addition, not all electronic invoices are valid for VAT reclaim and printed invoices often contain varied VAT rates which may not be distinctly marked.
VAT reclaim can be complicated! But it doesn't need to be.
